Kuwait - KUNA

MPs Yaacoub Al-Sanea, Nasser Al-Merri and Saadoun Hammad on Monday submitted a motion for grilling Minister of Oil Hani Hussein over purported irregularities related to payment of fines for calling off the "Dow Chemical deal" and other topics. Topics of the motion include alleged financial and adminstrative irregularities related to the payment of fines for scrapping the "Dow Chemical deal," suspicions surrounding the contract between Kuwait's Petrochemical Industries Company and the Dow Chemical Company, alleged sale of liquor and magazines of indecent contents at fuel stations of Kuwait Petroleum International in Europe. Moreover, the lawmakers are seeking answers to purported violations of the law of boycotting Israel and breach of rules governing personnel and staff promotions at Kuwait Oil Company. Also today, MPs Safaa Al-Hashem and Yousef Al-Zalzalah filed a grilling motion at the National Assembly to interpellate First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmad Humoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The deputies are seeking to question the minister for purported failure to cooperate with the legislative authority, violation of the National Constitution, abstention from implementing judicial rules, security slackness, covering up a terrorist cell and endangering security of a GCC state. They have filed the interpellation motion on basis of Article 100 of the Constitution that affirms MPs' right to grill the premier and ministers on issues within their jurisdictions.
