The Centre for Women's Studies at the University of Jordan (UJ) held a special meeting for faculty, graduates and new entrants. The meeting aims at strengthening the bonds of cooperation and benefit from the expertise of its graduates to improve the academic process and promote the center’s research and academic status. The meeting, which was held in collaboration with the American Bar Association and the United States Agency for Development (USAID), tackled ways to promote scientific research and capacity building of faculty at the Center, and the possibility of improving the study plan offered by the Center, to contribute to promoting it, locally, regionally and globally. "The Center for Women's Studies is one of the centers that have received the attention of the University administration to enable it to achieve its objectives to promote women's issues at both the academic level or with regards to upgrading women’s studies and shedding light on women issues through conferences and seminars,” UJ vice President for Quality and Scientific Research, Prof. Mohammed Batsh said in his speech. The Director of the Center for Women’s Studies, Dr. Abeer Dababneh focused in her speech on the future vision of the Center and the associated action plan to develop the center’s performance and overcome the main challenges that hinder its progress at both the financial level and the lack of specialized human cadres. Dababneh stressed the Center’s quest to build the capacity of its faculty members, and to establish a Society to gather the friends of the Center for Women's Studies, including students, alumni and interested parties that are working in the same area. She also confirmed the Centre’s determination to launch an international academic program in English. The Director of American Bar Association in Jordan, Maha Shomaly, referred to the strong relationship between the Association and the Center, noting at the same time that the ties of cooperation with the University of Jordan dating back to 2005 through the future judges and lawyers program. The participating faculty members described their role in the advancement of education in the Center, and highlighted expertise possessed by graduates of the center, given that a number of them occupy important positions. In their interventions, the participating students and fresh graduates shared the role of the center in their practical and academic lives, and future aspirations towards the advancing and development of the Center in all aspects and at different levels.
