Building is to start on a state-of-the-art library and laboratory for the Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Secondary and Technical School in Mombasa, Kenya. The school was set up in the late 1970s by a grant from the President, Sheikh Khalifa. Building started in 1982 with the foundation stone being laid by Sheikh Khalifa's father, the founding President of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed. The school enjoys on-going support from the Khalifa bin Zayed Humanitarian Foundation. Mohammed Al Khoori, the foundation's director general, said it was pleased with the impact it has had in the country. "We are extremely proud of the progress that the students are making, and it is the foundation's endeavour to help usher them into the competitive workforce," he said. The co-ed boarding school is recognised as one of the finest private secondary schools in Kenya. It has 760 students and the curriculum includes English, maths, local languages, chemistry and Islamic education. Since inception, the school has equipped more than 4,000 former students with the skills to pursue careers in accountancy, banking, industry, medicine, aviation and the technological and commercial sectors, Mr Al Khoori said. A significant number of former pupils are also placed in local government offices and diplomatic missions abroad. From The National
