Istanbul - Xinhua

Turkish police on Tuesday detained 38 people, some of them journalists, in a probe into the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK), which has an alleged link to the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK). Local private NTV reported Agence France-Presse photographer Mustafa Ozer was among the journalists detained in the simultaneous raids carried out in Istanbul, Mersin, Diyarbakir, Van, Sirnak, Ankara and Izmir early in the morning. The offices of Etkin News Agency as well as pro-Kurdish news establishments Dicle News Agency and Ozgur Gundem were also raided. The detainees were arrested on grounds that they were part of the "Center of the Ideological Sphere" within the KCK.The KCK is alleged to be the urban wing of the PKK, which is listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union.
