Kuwait - UPI

Tribe members' protest reportedly over a Kuwait TV station's interview of a pro-government candidate turned violent, and 20 people were injured, officials said. Police used tear gas to disperse hundreds of people Tuesday after tribesmen stormed the private TV station Al Watan in Kuwait City, Gulf News reported. Protesters were reported to have been angry because the station broadcast an interview with pro-government parliamentary candidate Nabeel Al Fadhl. The protest came after members of the Al Mutair tribe Monday night burned the Adailiya tent headquarters of controversial candidate Mohammad Al Juwaihal, who tribe members said had insulted the tribe. In Tuesday's protest, police used tear gas after former lawmakers failed in attempts to persuade the crowd to move away from the TV station building. In a statement, the royal court called for calm and caution ahead of Thursday's election, when about 400,000 Kuwaitis are expected to vote to elect 50 members of Parliament.
