Tehran - FNA

A prominent Iranian legislator lambasted the Cable News Network (CNN) for distorting President Hassan Rouhani’s remarks, describing it as a Zionist move. “This media outlet (CNN) that claims to be fair in dissemination of information and news, when it commits such a treacherous act in the field of media and attributes certain statements to the Iranian president who has never mentioned them, this means the attempt by the CNN has been a Zionist-oriented move,” Rapporteur of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Seyed Hossein Naqavi Hosseini told FNA on Saturday. He reiterated that Israel has been enraged by the UN General Assembly’s atmosphere and clear stances of Iran in New York as well as the efforts by the western countries to meet the Iranian president and foreign minister on the sidelines of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly. “The Zionists suppose that they can no longer misuse the hostile relations between Iran and the US in their own interest and for the suppression of other Muslim nations, and for the very same reason they want attribute statements to the Iranian delegation to  fuel those hostilities and tensions again to benefit from them,” he added.   On Tuesday, September 24, CNN's Christiane Amanpour conducted an interview with President Rouhani on the sidelines of the 68th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York which was full of not just mistranslations, but fabrication and falsification of the president's remarks about the Holocaust. While the Iranian president did not recognize the Holocaust, the CNN aired a translation which contained several words and sentences which were not uttered by the Iranian President. For a full detail of discrepancies, mistranslations and fabrications click here, here and here. After FNA protested at the CNN's move, the American network stood by the translation and its report. Later several reputable world media, including the Wall Street Journal, approved of FNA's claims and criticized CNN. FNA asked CNN to correct the translation, air it again and extend an apology, but the American network has refused to do so.
