Mercedes-Benz won three awards at the recent World Car Awards, which included the ‘2015 World Car of the Year’ for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, which was presented at the New York Auto Show, US.
The other two awards won by Mercedes-Benz were the ‘2015 World Luxury Car’ for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupé, while the Mercedes-AMG GT picked up the ‘2015 World Performance Car’, said a statement.
Mercedes-Benz had previously won the ‘World Car of the Year’ award in 2014 for its flagship S-Class.
The 2015 World Car Awards are organised in association with New York International Auto Show, Bridgestone Corporation and Autoneum and judged by an international jury panel, it added.
The C-Class was chosen from an initial entry list of 24 vehicles from around the world, then a short list of 12, followed by a final three finalists.
The World Car Awards jurors recognised the C-Class for taking its design and technological cues from the S-Class but employing an all-new aluminium/steel hybrid platform and updated rear-drive powertrain that delivers levels of refinement, luxury, safety, ride and handling to challenge the best-in-class, it further stated.
Dirk Fetzer, director of sales and marketing at Daimler Middle East & Levant, said: “We are really proud of our accomplishments – being the only automobile manufacturer to make it into the final round of the awards with five models nominated and being selected for three awards is a remarkable achievement for us.”
“The Mercedes-Benz C-Class embodies modern automotive luxury, delivers top performance and offers high levels of quality, comfort and safety. We’re also proud to see the S-Class Coupé named the 2015 World Luxury Car and the Mercedes-AMG GT as the 2015 World Performance Car,” he added.
