Tottenham have agreed a deal with Wembley that will see them play their Champions League matches at the national stadium next season.

The agreement also provides Spurs with the option to play all their Premier League and cup home games at Wembley from the 2017-18 season.

Tottenham have begun the process of transforming White Hart Lane into a 61,000-seater stadium and will be playing in front of a reduced capacity from next season as a consequence.

They will vacate White Lane Hart for the whole of the 2017-18 campaign to complete the work and plan to open their new stadium the following season.

"We're delighted that, through working in partnership with WNSL and the Football Association, we've been able to reach this agreement," Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy told the club's official website.
"Playing at Wembley Stadium will mean that we can continue to accommodate all of our existing season ticket holders.

"Our season ticket waiting list is over 50,000 so this now also offers us a great opportunity to provide more of our supporters with a chance to see the team play live during our Champions League campaign.

"Importantly, as we know it was our fans' preference, it means that we can play our home matches in London during our season away."
Tottenham finished third in the Premier League this season - one point below their fierce north London rivals Arsenal but well ahead of both Manchester City and Manchester United.

That third place guaranteed them the potentially rich pickings of a run in the Champions League, so the deal to play at Wembley was crucial to those plans.
