Ouagadougou - Arab Today

Burkina Faso coup leaders and the army signed an agreement late on Tuesday to end a tense standoff sparked by last week's putsch, representatives of both sides said.

Under terms of the five-point agreement, the presidential guards (RSP) involved in the coup agreed to return to their base and hand over the positions they had taken up in the capital Ouagadougou.

And the army agreed to withdraw its troops from the capital to a distance of 50 kilometres (30 miles) and to guarantee the security of those involved in the coup, as well as that of their families.

The five-point agreement was presented early on Wednesday to the Mogho Naba, "king" of Burkina Faso's leading Mossi tribe, in front of the press.
